An open letter to the Hon. Theresa Oswald

Dear Minister,

What can we say? Rumors are abound; some good, some bad. We are worried. Worried that you are going to be bullied out of this race but the same Party members who hung you out to dry only a few months ago; worried that you are going to pass on this chance to make history and show our daughters that Obama was only half right, it is "Yes She Can!" We are worried that without you our Party, the Party we love and support, will not be able to win the next election, and leave Manitoba in right wing neo-con hands.

Theresa, WE NEED YOU! Now more then ever! That is why we are drafting you to lead our Party! You have the right mix of youth, ability and having put in your time. When you first became an MLA you proved that you are a cut above the rest, and that is why you have been such a key player in Gary Doer's team. Some candidates may have a few more grey hairs, but is that what Manitoba is looking for? NO. One of the other candidates may also be young, but does HE have the profile to keep these swing voters voting NDP? NO. (Come on, a year around the cabinet table somehow makes him a front runner?!?)

Minister, we need you to do this. For us, for our sons and daughters, for our province! RUN BABY RUN!

Sincerely yours,

The vocal and ever-growing Draft Theresa Oswald Team
(this is one majority that won't be silenced!)

Come on, lets get serious. Oswald fouled up the Sinclair situation, and bad. She didn`t manage that issue like a future Premier. Experience counts, and it showed during Sinclair. Either Ashton or Selinger have the experience, performance and the support in the party to take the Premier`s job. Not Oswald. Your cheerleading is very nice, but you`re wrong on this.

Well she's out and moving down south. That leaves a nice open seat for the new leader to recruit a star in 2011.

Steve Ashton is the clear progressive choice, to move this party to a bit more social democratic positions than Doer ever did.

Disappointed that Theresa is supporting Swan and not a strong woman.

Maybe Jennifer Howard will run.

We need to have at least two NON TOKEN female candidates.

Urg...so mad.

This party is nothing but a boy's club.

Oswald would be a good candidate, but I can't argue with her own reasons for not running, as stated here:

"It’s just not the time to be walking away from this portfolio," she said of the potential of an H1N1 pandemic this fall.

"In another time and in another place I would really have been proud to have been a woman in this leadership race, you bet. But the time right now with the pandemic is not for me."

Of course, anyone who's watched Yes Minister knows that that isn't really true (the deputy minister could run the department just fine in her absence) but the perception could be damaging to her and to the party.

I would like to see Jennifer Howard run, but I've heard nothing from her on any intent to run... or even who she'd endorse for that matter. And the fact that she's only been an MLA for two years might work against her. She's definitely one to watch, though; one of the smarter people in the house I think.

Of those declared or likely, I'm inclined to support Selinger if he does indeed run.

Looks like your last hope is Nevakshonoff!
